ABOUT US
Rescuing shipwrecked people in distress, saving lives, and caring for the injured and sick:
The maritime rescue team is always ready to respond—around the clock and in any weather.
The DGzRS is responsible for maritime search and rescue operations in the German waters of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. It operates approximately 60 rescue cruisers and boats at 55 stations between Borkum in the west and Usedom in the east. Year after year, the rescue teams carry out about 2,000 missions, coordinated by the German Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Bremen, which is part of the DGzRS.
All of the independent and self-directed work carried out by the sea rescuers is funded exclusively through voluntary donations, without drawing on any public funds. Since the DGzRS was founded in 1865, its crews have rescued more than 87,300 people from distress at sea or saved them from imminent danger. The sea rescuers are under the patronage of the Federal President.
