Delius Klasing is one of Europe’s leading specialty publishers. We publish in the water sports, cycling, general sports, and automotive sectors. As specialists in these fields, we are successfully active across all media formats.
Our guiding principle and commitment is to be the best in every area of publishing and every product category. High-quality content, top-notch product quality, and outstanding service define Delius Klasing’s profile.
Founded in Berlin in 1911, the company, now headquartered in Bielefeld, looks back on more than a century of publishing history. In total, the publishing house employs more than 200 people in Bielefeld, as well as in Munich, Stuttgart, and Hamburg.
The catalog of this long-established company includes approximately 1,300 available book titles, around 40 calendars, and numerous software products. About 100 new titles are added each year. The maritime and automotive book programs form the core of the new releases, which are complemented by an extensive selection of outdoor, sports, and cycling literature. The catalog is supplemented by more than 630 e-books as well as numerous online and app offerings.
Since July 2016, Delius Klasing Verlag has maintained a strategic partnership with Die Werkstatt, the leading publisher of soccer books in the German-speaking world. In July 2018, the collaboration took a second step forward when Delius Klasing increased its previous 49 percent stake in the Göttingen-based publisher to 100 percent. Die Werkstatt continues to operate its ambitious sports book program, which includes nearly 500 available titles, as an independent publisher.
The magazine portfolio consists of 18 publications covering all of the publisher’s subject areas. YACHT, Europe’s largest water sports magazine, leads the maritime division, flanked by YACHT classic, SURF, BOOTE, BOOTE EXCLUSIV, and YACHT classic. Since 2014, the annual magazine SUP has been aimed at fans of the trending sport of stand-up paddling. In April 2021, SURF and SUP will feature a 60-page wingsurfing special in their issues for the first time. At the same time, a new online magazine, www.wingsurf.world, was launched, dedicated to this new trending sport in great detail.
BIKE—Europe’s first mountain bike magazine—and TOUR, Europe’s first and still leading road bike magazine, are now at the forefront of Delius Klasing Verlag’s bicycle magazine lineup. The title FREERIDE is the ideal addition to Delius Klasing’s cycling segment. Since 2015, Delius Klasing has also been publishing “E-Bike – the Catalog” once a year, providing a comprehensive market overview for anyone interested in learning more about the latest e-bike models. Since spring 2016, EMTB has been the first magazine specifically dedicated to fans of e-mountain bikes.
The demand for information on cycling—particularly regarding e-bike concepts and e-bike-related topics—is growing steadily. More and more people are rediscovering or discovering cycling for the first time thanks to e-mobility. Europe’s largest bicycle publisher, Delius Klasing, is responding to this market trend with a new magazine launching in February 2018. MYBIKE delivers a wide range of bicycle-related topics every two months, with a focus on e-bikes. In spring 2019, the first MYBIKE special issue on bicycle travel will be published, aimed at anyone who enjoys spending their free time and vacations on their own bike.
In the automotive sector, Delius Klasing stands out for its exceptional expertise regarding Volkswagen. GUTE FAHRT and VW CLASSIC cover the entire Volkswagen range in magazine format.
Since 2011, Delius Klasing has been serving classic car enthusiasts with its biannual magazine PORSCHE KLASSIK. The world of model cars is covered by MODELL FAHRZEUG, which has been a leader in this small but niche market for years and was able to strengthen its position with the integration of MODELL MAGAZIN in the spring of 2015.
As a corporate publishing service provider (www.dkcp.de), Delius Klasing has been successfully serving renowned partners in the automotive industry, among others, for decades and has built a strong international reputation.
Another pillar of the company is its events division, which organizes a total of around 30 in-house events specifically tailored to the needs of the publisher’s various target groups. These include, for example, the BIKE and TOUR Transalp, the BIKE Festivals in Willingen, Riva del Garda, and Saalfelden-Leogang, as well as “E-Motions,” the e-bike event at Lake Millstatt in Carinthia, which has been held since 2018.
Delius Klasing Verlag’s consistent focus on its target audience and its commitment to providing the best possible service to its readers are also reflected in its digital activities. Here, the publisher utilizes innovative technologies and many in-house developments to establish a strong online presence. The highly trafficked website www.tour-magazin.de is currently one of the world’s largest road cycling forums and offers cycling enthusiasts a wide range of opportunities for information and discussion.
For water sports enthusiasts, the media company also offers online portals—www.yacht.de and www.boote-magazin.de—that are tailored to the needs of their target audiences and boast the highest traffic figures in their respective segments worldwide—not least thanks to the video content provided by YACHT-TV and BOOTE-TV.
In addition, Delius Klasing has become one of the first special-interest publishers in Germany to establish a presence in the digital marketplace. Since late summer 2011, the BIKE app—the first digital edition of a magazine from the publisher’s portfolio—has been available in the App Store. Today, nearly all of the magazines are also available in digital format.
Effective June 1, 2019, Delius Klasing will take over the book program of the Hamburg-based publisher spomedis. Among the successful running and triathlon books bearing the renowned spomedis label is the bestseller *The Running Bible* by Matthias Marquardt.
After publisher Konrad Delius (68) appointed Nils Oberschelp (50) to the management board of Delius Klasing Verlag effective December 1, 2020, the two have since been co-leading the long-established family business.
A passion for the topics the publishing house covers and an unwavering commitment to delivering first-class content characterize all of Delius Klasing’s products and services. And this has been the case for more than 100 years.
