This is an introduction to sail trim on an upwind course. Basic information on jib hole points, sail twist and traveler

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Oliver Ochse has been working full-time as a sailing instructor and sailing trainer on small keelboats and sailing yachts for almost 15 years. Personal trainer for crew and skipper on many owner yachts worldwide
Until 2012, he worked as a sailing instructor and station manager at the Sail & Surf Pollensa sailing school in the north of Mallorca.

Active regatta sailor for over 30 years with keelboats at the Kieler Woche, Copa del Rey and ORC World Championships as skipper and helmsman.
As a sailing professional in various positions on board regatta boats at regattas such as Palmavela, Copa del Rey and Voile de St Tropez

Since 2020 owner of the Archambault M 34 "Petit Chasseur" a 10 meter regatta yacht.

WHAT

This lecture is about preparing for a cruise: from planning to taking over the yacht, putting together a good seamanship and what you can fall back on to prepare yourself.

And how can the Yachtsport-Club Deutschlands e.V. help with all this?

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

From 2009 to 2023, Timo Elfes worked at the DHH Chiemsee Yacht School as a sailing instructor and deputy principal. There he led DHH yachts as responsible skipper in many areas worldwide, including the Baltic Sea, the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and the Caribbean.

In his free time and on vacation, Timo Elfes sails on charter trips and enjoys discovering new sailing areas. His favorite areas include the Canary Islands and the Cyclades.

He has been able to get to know and sail many different sailing boats. Jeanneau, Bénéteau, X-Yachts, Najad and Pogo, to name but a few.

Since September 2023, I have taken on a new challenge and now work at Pantaenius Yacht Insurance.

WHAT

The underwater hull... for many boat owners it can only be worked on very laboriously and usually with moderate success. But a well-maintained underwater hull is the guarantor for the value retention of a yacht.
Rust on the keel, leaking rubber joint in the keel-hull connection, damp rudder blade, over-coating, osmosis?
What is osmosis, how can it be detected, how can it be prevented or remedied? Is there a professional answer to rust and corrosion in steel and aluminum?
These are the questions we will address in our lecture and, with the help of clear photographic material, we will provide an entertaining and to the point insight into the professional underwater ship refit with the technical possibilities of the specialist.

The experts at Peter Wrede Yacht Refits specialize in yacht painting and underwater hull refurbishment: osmosis prevention / remediation, corrosion protection, blasting and coating. For more than 30 years, everything we do has revolved around protecting the surfaces of yachts. With our team we realize the refit wishes of our customers in modern blasting and painting facilities at our locations in Hamburg, Neustadt, Kappeln and Greifswald.
Florian Brix, our man "at the front" has been part of the Wrede team for over 15 years and has seen just about every refit case. With his expert knowledge and great photographic material, he provides insights into the professional Peter Wrede underwater ship refit.

Small cause, big effect: Pantaenius handles more than 6,000 claims every year. A large proportion of these could have been prevented with the simplest of preventive measures. Dirk Hilcken explains what boat owners can do themselves to avoid unnecessary risks on the water. The insurance expert also provides an overview of insurance policies - which ones make sense and which ones are necessary?

WHAT

This Atlantic Challenge is known as one of the toughest rowing races in the world. The start of this annual event is in mid-December. Like all previous sailors, the race starts from the island of La Gomera (Canary Islands), more precisely in the port of San Sebastian de la Gomera. The finish port is in the Caribbean on the beautiful island of Antigua, heading west-southwest. In between there is only the Atlantic Ocean with a distance of 3000 nautical miles or about 4800 kilometers.
