WHAT

This is an introduction to sail trim on the downwind course. Basic information on jib hoist point, halyard tension, traveler and sail twist

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Oliver Ochse has been working full-time as a sailing instructor and sailing trainer on small keelboats and sailing yachts for almost 15 years. Personal trainer for crew and skipper on many owner yachts worldwide
Until 2012, he worked as a sailing instructor and station manager at the Sail & Surf Pollensa sailing school in the north of Mallorca.

Active regatta sailor for over 30 years with keelboats at the Kieler Woche, Copa del Rey and ORC World Championships as skipper and helmsman.
As a sailing professional in various positions on board regatta boats at regattas such as Palmavela, Copa del Rey and Voile de St Tropez

Since 2020 owner of the Archambault M 34 "Petit Chasseur" a 10 meter regatta yacht.

WHAT

We look at the sails on the boat live at the jetty. Depending on the wind conditions, we will look at the trim of the jib and mainsail. A lecture on the trim of the foresail and mainsail. Sailing consultant Oliver Ochse explains how the threads in the jib help to steer to windward and find the perfect position for the hoisting point.

WHAT

Never without! Lifejacket. If a person goes overboard, the lifejacket and rescue options are of central importance. You will learn details about the design, use and maintenance of your lifejacket, various recovery systems will be explained and demonstrated in practice in the demonstration pool (Walden system) and on trips out at sea (Catch and Lift system).

WHAT

A life jacket protects its wearer from drowning and is therefore the most important lifesaver on board. After all, there are many ways to get into the water involuntarily. Another advantage: life jackets ensure that the person in the water independently turns to the supine position and thus keeps the head above water. This keeps the airways clear.

This lecture is about the sails for the leeward course.
Modern boats and rigs offer many different types of headsails for the space sheet course. Oliver Ochse uses an example to explain which sail makes sense when and what you need to bear in mind with a gennaker.
