Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink present Next Generation Boating Around the World:
Two young sailors, one big dream: Racing around the world!
For the first time the sailing world gets to see the Class40 in its new outfit, for the first time Melwin Fink and Lennart Burke report live on their plans to sail around the world, describe the project, their partners, the regatta and answer your questions.
Lennart Burke (born 1997) and Melwin Fink (born 2002) are part of the new generation of German offshore sailing. With passion, sporting determination and a clear mission, they are competing as the "Next Generation Boating Around the World" team for Globe40 2025/2026, the circumnavigation in double-handed racing mode.
Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink became famous in 2021 through their participation in the Mini-Transat. Melwin was the first German to win a stage and finished third overall. This attracted a lot of media attention.
Together, Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink combine youthful courage and professional experience. Their participation in the Globe40 is more than just a sporting adventure: they see their project as a platform for inspiration, the promotion of young talent and the future-oriented development of German ocean sailing.
Her guiding principle: "THINK BIG. THINK SOCIAL."
There is a lot of talk about antifouling. Biocide-containing antifoulings in particular have a good effect, but people are trying to reduce biocides wherever possible. After all, we don't want to poison our environment.
We show which antifouling and fouling control systems are widely used. What alternatives make sense?
We discuss the distribution of biocide-containing products to end users and how they are handled abroad.
Some products are reserved for use by shipyards or professional service companies.
Helge von der Linden is Managing Director of M.u.H. von der Linden GmbH; sailor; has always been involved in environmentally friendly solutions. Over the years, much has been done to reduce biocide input. Sometimes biocide-containing antifouling should not be dispensed with. Networking with experts from research, associations and authorities as well as manufacturers gives von der Linden a good overview of developments.
The widespread fear of port manoeuvres has a technical and a psychological/mental side. In our demonstration we would like to give you an idea of how it can be managed to get some calmness and composure into the procedures.
Mara Zapp is the director of the Well Sailing school and an experienced instructor not only for harbor maneuvers.
Mara will sail and comment on the maneuvers with her (small) crew.
Modern ropes are increasingly replacing rigid wires on board. Loop splices are often used instead of shackles. Sören Zopf shows how to make such splices yourself and gives suggestions on how to save weight in the rig with modern cordage made from HMPE fibers such as Dyneema or Stirotex.
Many a boat that has been abandoned could still have been afloat if systematic spill prevention had been carried out.
On the other hand, it is also a challenge to find the right moment to abandon the boat.
How to prepare and how to act practically is the subject of the demonstration and our MINI workshops, for which please join a registration list at our Meri Crash.
The Meri Crash is our spill response training boat with real leaks and real water.
Together with presenter Oliver Ochse, Mara Zapp helps to ensure that the practical demonstration does not become a dry (!) event.
The underwater hull... for many boat owners it can only be worked on very laboriously and usually with moderate success. But a well-maintained underwater hull is the guarantor for the value retention of a yacht.
Rust on the keel, leaking rubber joint in the keel-hull connection, damp rudder blade, over-coating, osmosis?
What is osmosis, how can it be detected, how can it be prevented or remedied? Is there a professional answer to rust and corrosion in steel and aluminum?
These are the questions we will address in our lecture and, with the help of clear photographic material, we will provide an entertaining and to the point insight into the professional underwater ship refit with the technical possibilities of the specialist.
The experts at Peter Wrede Yacht Refits specialize in yacht painting and underwater hull refurbishment: osmosis prevention / remediation, corrosion protection, blasting and coating. For more than 30 years, everything we do has revolved around protecting the surfaces of yachts. With our team we realize the refit wishes of our customers in modern blasting and painting facilities at our locations in Hamburg, Neustadt, Kappeln and Greifswald.
Florian Brix, our man "at the front" has been part of the Wrede team for over 15 years and has seen just about every refit case. With his expert knowledge and great photographic material, he provides insights into the professional Peter Wrede underwater ship refit.
Anyone can make an eye splice themselves! Sören is a ropes expert at Premiumropes and will explain in a hands-on workshop after the presentation on stage how to do it easily with ropes made of HMPE super fibers. Come along and join in, because splicing is not only very stable and looks good, it's also great fun to splice the lines on your own boat. Practice line and tools are provided, even for beginners - no previous experience necessary.
Modern eye splice instead of knots in the halyard. In this free workshop, Sören Zopf explains step by step how you can make an eye splice in a Dyneema rope yourself and sparks enthusiasm for clever splicing solutions on board. The workshop will be preceded by a 20-minute theory session on stage in the exhibition hall.
Sören is an active sailor from the Kiel Fjord but also sails in the Baltic Sea, North Sea and Atlantic. In addition to sailing trips and cruising, he also undertakes day trips with his dinghy. Sören also takes part in the Wednesday regattas in Kiel.
At Premiumropes, Sören Zopf works in the office in Kiel and is the contact person for German customers. During the yacht festival you will find Sören after the presentations on the stage in the exhibitor hall.
