To prevent damage, you need to understand its causes. What the cold, hard numbers from yacht insurance companies mean in the real, colorful world—and what lessons everyone can learn from them.

A life jacket protects its wearer from drowning and is therefore the most important lifesaver on board. After all, there are many ways to get into the water involuntarily. Another advantage: life jackets ensure that the person in the water independently turns to the supine position and thus keeps the head above water. This keeps the airways clear.

Modern ropes are increasingly replacing rigid wires on board. Loop splices are often used instead of shackles. Sören Zopf shows how to make such splices yourself and gives suggestions on how to save weight in the rig with modern cordage made from HMPE fibers such as Dyneema or Stirotex.
Sören Zopf advises Premiumropes' German customers on ropes, lines and other rigging issues on board sailing yachts. With his many years of experience, he can also help sailors with splicing techniques. In 2022, Sören opened the Premiumropes office in Kiel. He coordinates marketing and customer inquiries from there. On the water, he spends a lot of time on a wooden dinghy, but also on larger yachts. Sören's home waters are the Kiel Fjord.

The underwater hull... for many boat owners it can only be worked on very laboriously and usually with moderate success. But a well-maintained underwater hull is the guarantor for the value retention of a yacht.
Rust on the keel, leaking rubber joint in the keel-hull connection, damp rudder blade, over-coating, osmosis?
What is osmosis, how can it be detected, how can it be prevented or remedied? Is there a professional answer to rust and corrosion in steel and aluminum?
These are the questions we will address in our lecture and, with the help of clear photographic material, we will provide an entertaining and to the point insight into the professional underwater ship refit with the technical possibilities of the specialist.
The experts at Peter Wrede Yacht Refits specialize in yacht painting and underwater hull refurbishment: osmosis prevention / remediation, corrosion protection, blasting and coating. For more than 30 years, everything we do has revolved around protecting the surfaces of yachts. With our team we realize the refit wishes of our customers in modern blasting and painting facilities at our locations in Hamburg, Neustadt, Kappeln and Greifswald.
Florian Brix, our man "at the front", has been part of the Wrede team for over 15 years and has seen just about every refit case. With his expert knowledge and great photo material, he provides insights into the professional Peter Wrede underwater ship refit.

How does one become a professional sailor in one of the most fiercely competitive boat classes in the world? Johannes Schonefeld and Tom Ismar offer insights into their 49er campaign. The presentation traces the path from youth sports to Olympic high-performance sailing, explains the structured approach of a young team, and highlights the daily challenges of balancing athleticism, technique, and professional management.
Since 2024, Johannes Schonefeld and Tom Ismar have formed an ambitious team in the Olympic 49er class. Drawing on years of experience in the 29er class, they are now focusing on professional structures and systematic training. Their goal: to make the leap to the international elite of sailing through technical precision, physical strength, and a clear strategic approach.

Dr. Robert Möckel is an engineer specializing in marine mechanical engineering and a psychologist in his "second life" (M.Sc.). As long as people have gone to sea, they have been afflicted by seasickness. From mild malaise, to severe courses, to total abandonment, it accompanies seafarers around the world. Nevertheless, not all people become seasick and for many who do, the symptoms disappear after 2-3 days at sea, they adapt. This adaptation process is the basis of a therapeutic approach that Thomas Bickhardt will explain in his lecture.
Seafaring psychologist and photographer, trained sailor.
Grew up in Germany, lived on the Norwegian west coast for almost 30 years. Also worked as a lighthouse keeper on Kråkenes fyr.
Head of the TILLIT Institute and moved back to Hamburg in 2023. Thomas Bickhardt has over 30 years of experience in the treatment of seasickness.
